HOW TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

1 John 5:13

INTRODUCTION: John always tells us why he is writing what he writes:

John 20:30-31 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Gospel of John was written so that we could know how to be saved

1 John was written so that we could know that we are saved.

IS THERE ENOUGH EVIDENCE IN YOUR LIFE TO:

1. Convince you in your own mind

2. Convict you in the minds of others

I. WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE BY GOD’S WORD …

John 1:1-5, 1:1, 2:5, 2:7,5:7

Psalm 119:130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

II. WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE BY THE WITNESS OF THE SPIRIT…

1 John 3:24, 4:13

1 John 5:6-10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself

Romans 8:8-16 Describes the necessity of having the Indwelling Holy Spirit.

III. WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE BY THE CHANGE IN OUR WALK…

1. Walk in the LIGHT… 1 John 1:5-7, 2:29, 3:9

2. Walk in the LAW… 1 John 2:3-6

3. Walk in LOVE… 1 John 2:9-11,3:14 .4:7-8

IV. WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE BY THE WAY GOD TREATS US…
